Pedestrian Accidents in Maine
Throughout the country and in our state, there remains a serious risk of pedestrian accidents due to the dependence on automobiles as the primary means of transportation, which has only increased year over year. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that 65,000 pedestrians are injured in crashes yearly.
It is legally obligatory for pedestrians and drivers of passenger vehicles to use caution. Nevertheless, even the most alert pedestrian is less noticeable and has a higher chance of injury than the typical driver. This makes it more likely that drivers will be found at fault in pedestrian crashes. Flashing lights or speed bumps do not protect pedestrians from irresponsible vehicles. Negligent driving is any dangerous activity, including speeding or ignoring the road.
