September 15, 2024

Augusta, ME (September 15, 2024) – Maine State Police troopers have identified the woman killed in a five-car crash in Augusta as 68-year-old Sari Ohmart of Brewer. Her husband, 70-year-old Leslie Ohmart, was driving when they were rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Robin Carter of Limerick.

Traffic was stopped due to a construction zone lane closure at the time of the crash. Officials say Sari and a dog in the car died at the scene. Police said the collision happened shortly before 3:10 p.m. Friday on I-95 southbound near Exit 113. Leslie, Carter, and others injured in the crash were transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries, and all of the cars were towed. The southbound travel lanes were shut down for more than two hours following the crash; however, the incident still remains under investigation.

Our deepest condolences are with Sari Ohmart's family. Our thoughts are extended to the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their full recovery.

Fatal Car Accidents in Maine

All too often, severe injuries from auto accidents eventually prove deadly. While there is no way to bring back the loved one you lost in an auto accident, you can hold the irresponsible driver accountable and get justice by filing a lawsuit. You can never be ready for the loss of a loved one in a tragic vehicle accident.

Burial and medical costs, loss of income or health benefits, and other issues may severely burden the victims and families suffering from a loved one's wrongful death. However, when a deceased individual would have been eligible to pursue a personal injury claim had they lived, a wrongful death claim may be made in the state of Maine against the defendant. This usually refers to wrongdoing, negligence, or default on the part of another individual that causes another person to pass away.
