Pedestrian Collisions in Maine

The most severe injuries and frequent occurrences of fatalities on our roadways are the result of pedestrian accidents that involve individuals who are on foot, riding bicycles, traversing on motorcycles, and beyond. Ultimately, the human body cannot withstand the impact of concrete or steel, sometimes at a rate exceeding 30 miles per hour. In Maine and other states, pedestrian fatalities are a significant concern due to the increased reliance on motor vehicles as the primary mode of transportation. Annually, 65,000 pedestrians sustain injuries as a result of collisions, as indicated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That said, both pedestrians and occupants of passenger vehicles are legally mandated to exercise caution.

However, even the most cautious pedestrian is more susceptible to injury and less visible than the average motorist. Regrettably, pedestrians are not protected from negligent motorists by flashing lights or speed obstacles. Consequently, pedestrians are more likely to be attributed culpability in collisions with motorists. After being injured or losing a loved one due to the actions of a negligent motorist in a pedestrian collision, it is imperative to consult with a knowledgeable accident attorney. This is just one of the many reasons.
