Oakland, ME – Two Hospitalized After Three-Car Collision on Smithfield Rd

Oakland, ME (July 29, 2024) – Authorities reported that two people were taken to the hospital on Monday after a three-vehicle crash on Smithfield Road that sent two cars into the trees and caused a trailer attached to a pickup truck to flip over.

Around 12:25 p.m. on Monday, July 29, the three-vehicle crash took place near a scenic overlook at 8 Smithfield Road. Officials say that a 2018 Nissan Altima, being driven west by a 60-year-old Manchester man, crossed the center line into the path of a 2004 Dodge 2500 pickup truck being driven east by a 19-year-old man from Waterville. According to Oakland police Detective Tifani Warren, the pickup truck swerved to try to avoid a collision, but the Altima collided with the pickup truck on the truck’s driver’s side.

The collision caused the trailer being hauled by the pickup to swing outward, and a third vehicle, a 2018 Subaru Forester driven by a 60-year-old Connecticut woman, swerved to avoid the collision. This caused the Subaru to go off the road and into trees. Two people were ultimately taken by Delta Ambulance to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. In the meantime, witnesses were asked to contact local authorities as an investigation proceeds.
