October 4, 2024

Orland, ME (October 4, 2024) – Authorities have identified the flagger who was killed on Tuesday morning, October 1, in Orland when he was struck by a car. The incident appears to have occurred on Acadia Highway in a paving work zone just before 7:00 a.m.

Around that time, 24-year-old Charles Resh was struck by a car driven by 70-year-old Clint Clagett of Bucksport, according to the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. They claim that Resh was assisting with traffic control in the construction area at the time of the incident. However, no further details have been provided to the public in the interim. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it's unclear if citations or charges will be issued.

We extend our deepest condolences to Charles Resh's family at this time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Maine

Accidents involving pedestrians—those on foot, bicycles, scooters, and other vehicles—lead to the worst injuries and high death tolls on our roads. The force of concrete or steel being hurled toward them, sometimes at over 30 miles per hour, is simply too much for the human body to withstand. Pedestrian accidents are a serious hazard in Maine and other places where there has been an increase in the reliance on motor vehicles as the primary form of transportation. Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that 65,000 pedestrians are injured in crashes each year. Laws requiring caution apply to both pedestrians and drivers of passenger vehicles.

Even the most cautious walker, however, is less noticeable and has a higher chance of injury than the typical driver. Sadly, reckless drivers can still harm pedestrians even in the presence of speed bumps or flashing lights. In crashes involving pedestrians, drivers are, therefore, more likely to be found at fault. This is only one of the many reasons you should consult with our experienced Orland wrongful death attorneys at the McCue Law Office if you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian incident due to the careless driving of another driver.
