Portland, ME – Victims Hurt in Car Accident on Main Trnpke/I-95 at MP 41

Portland, ME (August 1, 2024) – The Maine Turnpike Authority said crashes in two different areas caused significant traffic delays on both sides of the highway on Thursday afternoon, August 1. An alert posted at around 5:05 p.m. Thursday indicated a crash happened at milepost 41 on Interstate 95 South near Scarborough.

That crash led to the closure of the left and center lanes of the highway. The center lane had reopened by 5:40 p.m., and the left lane reopened just over 20 minutes later. The Maine Turnpike Authority's traffic camera at milepost 43 showed heavy traffic on the southbound side of the highway, and EMTs transported at least two people to the hospital. Per officers, there was no indication that alcohol or speed played a role in the crash; however, an investigation is still ongoing.
