Richmond, ME - One Killed, One Injured in Head-on Collision on Rte 201 at Thorofare

Richmond, ME (August 3, 2024) – One person was killed, and another person was injured in a crash on Route 201 on Saturday that resulted in a rollover and a vehicle fire, authorities confirmed.
The crash was reported just after 6:00 a.m. when two cars collided on Route 201 near Thorofare Road. One pickup truck was on fire in a ditch beside the highway, and the other vehicle was rolled over and blocking both lanes of Route 201, according to Richmond Fire Chief Stephen Caswell.
A preliminary investigation by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office determined that a northbound 2003 Chevrolet Silverado crossed the centerline of Route 201, prompting the driver of a 2003 Ford F-250 to swerve. One person was pronounced dead at the site, and EMTs transported the second victim to a local medical center.
Caswell added that traffic along that area of Route 201, also known as Brunswick Road, was shut down for about five hours until 11:00 a.m. In the interim, the sheriff’s office is reconstructing the crash, and the Maine State Police and the Topsham and Richmond police departments are aiding in the investigation. However, no further details were released in the interim.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased victim's family members. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their loved ones at this time.
