Surry, ME - Edwin Jones Dies in Solar Farm Accident on Surry Rd
Surry, ME (August 31, 2024) – On Thursday morning, a contract worker at Nexamp's Surry Solar passed away on the job due to a possible electrocution.
First responders and Maine State Police troopers were dispatched just before noon on Thursday to a solar farm located on Surry Road in Surry. After conducting an initial investigation, it was determined that Edwin Kendall Jones, 52, of Washington, Maine, died at the site of the incident. He was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
Surry Fire Chief Bryan McLellan confirmed that personnel were dispatched to Surry Solar in response to a report of an electrocution. McLellan stated that a witness heard his colleague scream before collapsing to the ground; the worker administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the individual before two firefighters arrived. Officials stated on Friday that the inquiry is still active and ongoing, and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration has been notified. That said, no further details have been provided to the public.
We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased man's family.
