When should I apply for Social Security Disability benefits?

If you do not think you are able to work on a full-time basis in any type of job, then you should consider completing an application for Social Security Disability benefits. You may complete an application at any time, but in order for your application to be approved, one of the requirements is that you must be unable to work for a period of at least twelve (12) months. If less than a year has passed since you became unable to work, you do not have to wait in order to apply, but your claim will not be approved unless your condition(s) will likely prevent you from working for a period of twelve (12) months. To determine whether your condition(s) are likely to prevent you from working in the future, claims examiners will rely on evidence and opinions from medical professionals.
