What benefits can I get from Social Security, and how do I apply?

The Social Security Administration pays benefits that fall into four basic categories: (1) retirement; (2) disability; (3) dependent; and (4) survivors. Online applications for retirement and disability benefits can be found on the Social Security Administration website, www.ssa.gov, and although electronic completion and submission of these applications is preferred, it is not required. If you are unable to complete an online application for any reason, you should contact your local Social Security office to discuss other available options. Individuals applying for disability benefits should also consider asking an attorney for help obtaining benefits. Let us know if you need help!
